Tara Browne dies

On December 18th 1966, London socialite Tara Browne was killed in a car crash. The young heir to the Guinness fortune didn't notice the lights had changed to red, and drove his Lotas Elan into a stationary lorry.

Browne's girlfriend, model Suki Potier was in the passenger seat but survived the crash; although she later died in a car accident in 1981.

John Lennon, reading of Browne's death in the newspaper, worked it into A Day in the Life, which was later released on the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album in 1967.
