US single release: Help!

Help! was released in the US on July 19th 1965, four days before the UK release. The song was written by John Lennon and was the title for the film of the same name.

Lennon described the song as subconsciously crying out for help, with all the mania surrounding the Beatles and their hectic career. The single reached number one in America and stayed at the top spot for three weeks.

Paul McCartney's I'm Down was chosen as the B-side.
