The Beatles recorded five songs for their forthcoming second album With the Beatles on July 30th 1963, at Abbey Road Studios London. This was a busy day recording for the band as they also had a radio appearance.

Four of the six songs recorded on this day were covers, the other two being Lennon/McCartney compositions. All My Loving was written by McCartney and All I've Got To Do was written by Lennon.

According to journalist Bill Harry, McCartney came up with the idea for the All My Loving while shaving.

All My Loving was the first song McCartney wrote the words to first, before composing the music. It was also one of John Lennon's favourite songs of Paul's from the early years; he later expressed his fondness for it in a 1980 interview for Playboy.

"It's a damn good piece of work... but I play a pretty mean guitar in back." - John Lennon
