The Beatles watch Dylan perform at the Isle of Wight Festival

On August 31st 1969, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr attended the Isle of Wight Festival to see Bob Dylan perform. Paul didn't go as his daughter Mary was born just three days prior. Yoko Ono, Pattie Harrison and Maureen Starkey accompanied their husbands to the festival.

"We went to the Dylan show, and if there had been a jam, we would have got up. It was killed before it happened. It was so late by the time he got on. We would have jammed if it had been earlier. The crowd was dying on their feet by the time he got on." - John Lennon

It was the first time Dylan performed publicly in three years, and his performance was witnessed by 150,000 people. Dylan was on stage for roughly one hour and afterwards the Beatles met up with him in the house he was renting. They gave him a test pressing of their forthcoming Abbey Road album, which they listened to and had a party that night,

"I went with him and The Beatles to the farmhouse where he was clearly in a merry mood because he had felt it had gone so well... The Beatles had brought a test pressing of Abbey Road and we listened to it and had quite a party." - Tom Paxton
