Live: Madison Square Garden
John Lennon performed for the last time in front of a paying audience on November 28th 1974, when he made a surprise appearance at Madison Square Garden, during an Elton John concert.
Elton John sang vocals and played piano on Whatever Gets You thru the Night, a single from John Lennon's Walls and Bridges album. Lennon had promised Elton John that if the single reached number one he'd make an appearance at Madison Square Garden. True to his word Lennon showed up and performed Whatever Gets You thru the Night, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds and I Saw Her Standing There.
"Elton sang on a single.. Whatever Gets You Thru The Night. He sang harmony on it and he really did a damn good job. So I sort of half-heartedly promised that if Whatever Gets You Thru The Night became number one, which I had no reason to expect, I'd do Madison Square Garden with him." - John Lennon
