Film facts: Yellow Submarine
The world premiere of Yellow Submarine took place on July 17th 1968, at the London Pavilion on Piccadilly Circus. All four Beatles attended the premiere and showed that Beatlemania was truly alive and well, as large crowds turned out and brought the city to a standstill. The US premiere wasn't until nearly four months later on November 13th, 1968, in New York.
Although The Beatles made a brief cameo appearance in the film, their cartoon counterparts were voiced by actors.
Yellow Submarine was well received by critics and fans alike, reportedly drawing more attention to animation as a serious art form. The Los Angeles Times called it the most stupendous animation feat in decades.
The breakthrough cartoon-film took nearly two years to complete, with 14 different scripts, 40 animators and over 140 technical artists.
