On June 16th 1966 The Beatles made their first and only live appearance on BBC's Top of the Pops. Previously they had recorded promotional material that was aired on the show but this was the first time they appeared live.

The Beatles were the last act to perform, miming to their new single Paperback Writer and Rain, which had just been released in the US on May 30th and June 10th in the UK.

This would be the band's final live TV broadcast, barring their performance of All You Need Is Love the following year.
