Pete Best joins the Beatles
On August 12th 1960, an eighteen-year old drummer by the name of Pete Best auditioned to join a band calling themselves The Silver Beatles.
John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison were due to fly to Hamburg but they were absent a drummer. Best was the only drummer who auditioned so he got the job.
The band changed their name to The Beatles and travelled to Hamburg on August 16th. Best was fired two years later, on August 16th 1962.
"He was a good drummer, and when Hamburg came up he joined us. He was a very good-looking guy, and out of all the people in our group, the girls used to go for Pete." - Paul McCartney
