Cavern debut: The Quarrymen
On August 7th 1957, a young skiffle group calling themselves The Quarrymen made their first appearance at the Cavern; a small jazz club in Liverpool
The band was lead by a cocky 16 year-old named John Lennon. Paul McCartney wasn't with the group on this day as he had to attend Boy Scout summer camp.
The Cavern being a jazz club, the manager didn't like it when John Lennon dared to play Hound Dog, and sent a note up to the stage telling the group to cut out the bloody rock 'n' roll.
