Song facts: Woman
On January 10th 1966, Peter and Gordon released Woman in the US; a song Paul McCartney wrote and gave to the British duo. It was released in the UK the following month on February 11th.
McCartney used the pseudonym Bernard Webb for the songwriting credits, seeing if he could have a hit without the Lennon/McCartney name. Woman peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 but only reached number 28 on the UK Singles Chart.
McCartney was in a relationship with Jane Asher, sister of Peter Asher from 1963 to 1968. The couple were engaged to be married but split up in July of 1968.
Peter and Gordon performed the song on US TV show Hullabaloo on April 11th 1966. The introducer can be heard referencing Paul McCartney before the performance.
